Queer Inclusive

We strive to provide safe, inclusive space for all LGBTQIA+ and queer individuals. It is also important to note that inclusivity must be intersectional, actively antiracist, and de-colonized to truly be inclusive; we are committed to ongoing trainings to consistently improve our ability to provide inclusive therapy.

Gender Expansive

We are dedicated to serve gender expansive, nonbinary, and transgender people via individual depth-based, long-term individual psychotherapy. This could be a focus on gender dysphoria, experiences of marginalization such as dead-naming or misgendering, processing trauma, or simply making therapy a safe space where your identity is wholly accepted which allows you to make space to talk about other parts of your life.

Telehealth Accessibility

Offering therapy online via video or phone options allows us to reach a much wider community of people within Colorado. Queer-specific therapy is sometimes difficult to find in parts of the state, but telehealth gives most people the opportunity to find a therapist that meets their needs from the comfort of their home, a study room at school, or even to take therapy on a walk. This allows us to reach more people than with the barrier of travel to and from an office for clients and therapist alike.

Unblending Internalized Oppression

For everyone, we have little (or big) voices in our heads enforcing the rules of the social systems around us that we’ve been taught throughout our lives. For many of us, these voices fill our heads with shame, guilt, and sadness, but even worse, they masquerade as our own voice. They tell us what we should or should not look like, feel like, talk like, be like. The therapists at Coalition for Queer Joy are skilled at recognizing when these internalized systems of oppression (e.g. transphobia, racism, homophobia, misogyny, ableism, capitalism, the list goes on) are influencing the lives of our clients and we work to help you unblend those voices from the your own voice to support you in aligning with your own values.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Rikki is trained in EMDR, an evidence-based treatment for all types of trauma and malaise. Developed since the 1980’s, EMDR is firmly rooted in neuropsychology. Our brains know how to heal themselves the same way our bodies do, but trauma can sometimes get our natural processing stuck. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (BLS) to get your brain back into the process of healing itself. Basically, EMDR is great for anything that’s stuck that we want to get unstuck. If you want to learn more about EMDR, check out this video.

Substance Use

Struggling with cutting down or stopping your use of drugs or alcohol? Rikki has a certification in addiction treatment and can help you build the motivation to meet your substance use goals. Rikki approaches substance use and addiction from a Harm Reduction framework, which focuses on what you want your use to look like and helps you get there with non-judgmental support. If you don’t know where to start, ask and we can figure out together if outpatient substance use therapy is right for your situation and use.
